IAFL11 Biennial Conference

The Language Engineering Group (GIL) at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) have the honour of hosting the 11th biennial IAFL Conference on Forensic Linguistics/Language and Law. The conference will take place at the Engineering tower of the Engineering Institute from 24th to 27th of June. We will be pleased to welcome all of you to our university and to our country.

The Faculty of Arts/Faculty of Law of the University of Porto (Porto, Portugal) will host the 3rd European Conference of the International Association of Forensic Linguists on the theme ofForensic Linguistics: Bridging the Gap(s) between Language and the Law. The conference, which is organised jointly by the two Faculties, aims to bridge the gap(s) between language and the law by sharing the latest research in the field of forensic linguistics/language and the law, and will be held from 15 to 18 October 2012.

The Department of Language and Communication at VU University Amsterdam will host the 9th Biennial IAFL Conference on Forensic Linguistics/Language and Law. The meeting is a 4-day conference to be held from the 6th to the 9th of July 2009. Individual papers and posters can deal with all aspects of forensic linguistics/language and law, and may include topics such as:

courtroom interaction police interviews courtroom interpreting and translating the readability/comprehensibility of legal documents the analysis/interpretation of legal texts the communicative challenges of ‘vulnerable’ witnesses language minorities and the legal system the use of linguistic evidence in court authorship/speaker identification the teaching/testing of forensic linguistics/language and law

It is anticipated that the first call for papers for this event will be circulated in July of this year with notification of acceptance of papers being made in January 2009.
